Sharpen Your Ladles: The Great Boggish Braze Off Enters the Swamp Kitchen
A cooperative, real-time cooking game from designer Brook Elf Nichols is currently in development.
Somewhere past the reeds, under a sky the color of pea soup, the most prestigious culinary event in the realm is about to begin. The Great Boggish Braze Off is a cooperative board game for 1–4 players in which witches, alchemists, herbalists, and assorted swamp chefs team up to survive a gauntlet of increasingly unimpressed magical judges and, if they cook well enough, walk away with the Golden Cauldron.
Your familiars are the clock
The game's central twist is that your kitchen staff are sand timers. Each chef character commands a different set of familiars, and each familiar has its own duration and its own aptitude for the work at hand. Place one on an action slot and it gets to work: foraging the bog for ingredients, shopping with vendors at rates that depend on how good a haggler your familiar is, brazing a dish with what you've gathered, accepting meal tickets from the judges, or stepping up for presentation to deliver everything you're holding.
The result is a real-time worker placement puzzle where time is the resource being spent, and your team's composition determines what you're good at. Nobody is good at everything. Coordination is the whole game.
Boss battles, but the boss is a food critic
Each round is a showdown with a single judge, played against a hard 5–10 minute clock. Between rounds, chefs regroup, buy upgrades, reset their timers, and brace for someone even harder to please. Dishes delivered earn points; a truly superb plate earns considerably more; a failed dish will cost you.
